Delaware sports betting sees September revenue increase. Delaware sports betting handle and sales saw a significant spike relative to August, despite sports betting numbers decreasing in September compared to a year earlier at the same time.

The overall betting handle for September for sports was $7,273,232, up 145.9 percent from $2,957,634 in August. However, according to statistics posted on the Delaware Lottery website, the handle was down 38 percent from $11,839,818 compared to September 2019.

Sports betting revenue saw a similar jump, with September’s estimate at $904,450, a rise of 146 percent over August’s $367,116, according to the Delaware Lottery report. The revenue for 2019 in the same month was 58 percent higher-$2,159,643-than this year’s number.

Delaware ‘s August iGaming handle was $19,834,956, which was down 4.6 percent from $20,782,682 in July, but from August 2019 (12,533,023) it was a 58.3 percent rise. Delaware ‘s August revenue of $808,623 was 14.6 percent higher than July ‘s total of $705,533 and up 178.6 percent from $290,200 in August 2019, even with the handle being down.

There were 571 new registrations for Delaware’s iGaming website. The number is down from 668 in July and marks the registrations for the fourth straight month were down from the month before. With 1,410 new registrations in April, Delaware had its biggest month.

From mid-March until June 1, Delaware ‘s three casinos were shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic. With new health and social distancing guidelines, Delaware Park, Dover Downs and Harrington were able to reopen though capacity was reduced to 30 percent. Sports betting at the three casinos is allowed, but despite it being legal, there is no mobile sports betting in the state.
