Vitalik Buterin, the Co-Founder of Ethereum, is now a crypto billionaire. The latest surge in the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency has pushed the total value of Buterin’s ETH holdings above $1 billion.
According to Etherescan, the public Ethereum address of Buterin now has 333,520 ETH with a total value of $1.05 billion. Buterin’s total net worth jumped significantly this year following the spike of more than 300% in the price of Ethereum.
Ethereum registered an all-time high of $3,200 today after a jump of more than 10% within the last 24 hours. The world’s second-most valuable cryptocurrency crossed the market cap of $350 billion and became more valuable than the Bank of America. Moreover, Ethereum whales have accelerated their transfer activities amid the latest jump in ETH.
Whale Alert highlighted a transfer of 16,323 ETH worth more than $50 million today from crypto exchange Binance to an unknown digital wallet. The mentioned transaction was recorded on Etherscan at 7:53 UTC.
The Co-Founder of Ethereum recently donated 100 ETH to a COVID-19 relief fund in India. Buterin has other ETH addresses as well but they are small compared to his main public address.
The Co-Founder of Ethereum remained vocal about his views on Bitcoin, ETH and other cryptocurrency assets. Earlier this year, Buterin said that the upcoming network upgrade of Ethereum will improve ETH’s scalability. During a conversation at the Latin American Bitcoin Conference in December 2020, Buterin warned about the security of crypto wallets and said that digital wallets are not ready for mass adoption.
“In my opinion, we don’t talk about the security issues in the crypto market enough because no one is willing to admit they lost $200,000, because if you admit you lost $200,000, you look like an idiot,” he said during the conversation.
Ethereum is currently trading above $3,150 with a market cap of more than $365 billion. ETH’s market dominance currently stands at around 16%, its highest level on record.
