Tropicana Casino and Resort has become the latest Atlantic City casino to opt for a move into internet gambling by forming a partnership with online casino and bingo operator Gamesys, the firm behind the Jackpotjoy.com website.
According to the ReviewJournal.com website, last year Gamesys became the first company to offer real-money gambling through social networking website Facebook in the UK market.
Noel Hayden, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Gamesys, said the UK firm has been keen to begin operation in the US state of New Jersey, and the Tropicana arrangement will allow it to do so.
He added, “We have always sought ambitious partners and Tropicana Atlantic City is a great partner.”
Tropicana follows a number of other Atlantic City casinos that have struck similar deals with online gaming partners before internet gambling becomes legal in New Jersey – a new rule expected to come into force on November 26.
Nine out of the 12 casinos have so far announced their internet plans. Caesars Entertainment quartet – Caesars Atlantic City, Bally’s Atlantic City, Harrah’s Resorts Atlantic City and the Showboat — will partner with 888 Holdings, while the Borgata has selected bwin.party.
Elsewhere, Resorts has partnered with PokerStars, while the Taj Mahal Casino Resort has chosen Ultimate Gaming. Trump Plaza is reported to have selected Betfair, Golden Nugget Atlantic City is to offer its own brand of online gambling using Bally Technologies, while Revel is yet to announce its plans.
