Jonas Odman has revealed that he has stepped down as President of the Bodog Poker Network after three years in order to concentrate on a new venture in the United States.

The Swede was instrumental in the network instituting its all-encompassing recreational online poker model that offered part-time players protection from professionals ready to take their money.

Odman first entered the world of online poker with the Ongame Poker Network in 2004 and soon began conceptualising his recreational poker model. He felt that the amount of money being spent on attracting professional and successful players was not a strategy for long-term success and would ultimately harm the game.

“Inevitably, I would love to bring the recreational poker model to the United States and may well decide to make a fundamental change to my career,” said Odman.

“Bodog gave me a great opportunity to bring anonymous tables to the world but with that now running effectively I am tempted to drive a start-up company based in the Golden State, which will be a business-to-business software provider for the regulated United States online poker market.

“Already competitive, of course, but now that the model is a proven success I want to bring it to poker’s homeland too and nobody else is offering anything tangibly different like this.”
