The Canada-based exchange operator under the TMX Group company structure appointed today Tom Wadden as Head of Data Science and Analytics for TMX Insights, a sub-division of TMX Markets, effective immediately, according to a company press release.
Mr. Wadden recently served as Head of Centre of Operational Excellence, Corporate Technology, at TD Bank, where he’s held numerous positions over the last 13 years, before joining TMX officially today.
TMX had recently launched its analytics division, and followed that news with the key hire today where Mr. Wadden will spearhead data-driven analytics including quantitative and qualitative analysis and related tools as the division’s Head of Data Science and Analytics, a newly created role for this position, and where he will report to the TMX Insights’ Director.
According to information on a LinkedIn profile for Mr. Wadden, he obtained a PhD in Computer Science from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Ottawa, and has held numerous senior roles at TD Bank during his more than decade career at the large Canadian Bank – which also has the significant TD Ameritrade brokerage business.

He added: “The crucial work now begins as we engage with our clients to identify their needs and build a deep understanding of the evolving industry trends in order to develop and deliver world leading data analytics solutions.”
According to TMX, Mr. Wadden will run a team of experts that apply scientific methods to a wide range of client’s needs across the analytic’s spectrum, including global data related tools and needs and across asset classes. He brings with him extensive experience in managing other quants in financial services focused roles, noted in the announcement.
TMX Insights’ Director Dominic Dows said in the press release: “We are very proud to welcome Tom and his wealth of data science experience and expertise to our TMX Insights team,” He added regarding the new role: “We are confident that moving forward under Tom’s strategic leadership TMX can aggressively build an essential suite of offerings and evolve into a preferred provider of on-demand analytics well into the future.”
