Esports Stadium Arlington, Texas, the largest dedicated esports facility in North America, has announced an expansion of its partnership with the United States Marine Corps (USMC).

The partnership saw its first activation take place on 27th December last year, when a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate event, Ultimatum II, attracted 300 players. Attendees at the weekend-long tournament also had the chance to try out the marksmanship trainer used by the USMC.

From 17th January to 17th April, the Marine Corps Academic Excellence Program will run in partnership with Esports Stadium Arlington, entitling high school and college students achieving an A-grade on their reports to a free hour of gaming at the stadium.

Discussing the partnership Spokesperson for  8th Marine Corps District, Captain Michael Maggitti, explained:

“All gamers, regardless of platform or genre, must face adversity and overcome challenges to succeed. Like Marines, there are battles won both as a team and as an individual that require intellect, resolve and the will to win.”
