Quarterly Figures Confirm Online Poker GGR Drop In Denmark

Online poker’s slide in European markets continued as Denmark Gambling Authority (SKAT) published second quarter 2013 figures showing a DK5m drop in gross gaming revenues, to DK50m from DK55m in the first quarter of the year.

Overall GGRs including online casino and poker products were up DK10m to DK250m during the quarter on the DK240m recorder the previous quarter. SKAT expects annual GGRs for all online games to reach DK970m in 2013, up from DK870m achieved in 2012. Online poker however is expected to drop to DK205m GGRs, from the DK220m recorded in 2012.

The Danish Gambling Authority explained that online poker’s contribution of 20% of the GGR total for all online games including casino was its lowest ever since the start of 2012, when the country first authorised regulated igaming.

“Online poker has contributed with a declining share of the total GGR from online casino” since that time, added SKAT.

Gross gaming revenues for betting were down to DK335m during the period, compared with DK370m during the first quarter of 2013.  However, the 2012 second quarter figures compare favourably with the DK265m GGRs recorded for the same period last year. Denmark is forecasting 2013 GGRs of DK1,4bn for betting, up from the DK1,8bn  of 2012.

Payout ratios for online casino and poker averaged 96% and 86% for betting.
