Call of Duty Mobile player Ingrid “Sol” Oliveira was allegedly murdered in São Paulo, Brazil on Monday by another player, Guilherme Alves Costa, who goes by the gamer tag “Flashlight.” Brazilian news portal R7 broke the news on Tuesday afternoon.
Oliveira reportedly met Costa through the game, and after one month of conversation, they were meeting for the first time at Costa’s residence. Costa allegedly stabbed Oliveira to death and then proceeded to record a video confessing to the crime on his mobile phone, sharing it on WhatsApp with a group of fellow COD Mobile players.
According to reports and a video shared by news portal Viva ABC, the crime was premeditated. Costa said he did it “because he wanted to” and affirmed he was lucid.
Costa reportedly turned himself to the police after talking to his brother. The group of COD Mobile players which he shared the video with made a public statement saying that they have no legal connection to Costa and contacted the authorities as soon as they saw the content. The group also asked its members to not share the video.
Oliveira, 19, was a COD Mobile player for FBI eSports team. Brazilian society still suffers from violence against women, and earlier this year a big movement took place in the country to denounce harassment cases within the esports scene.
