€136 Billion Betting Turnover For 2018 World Cup Russia

FIFA estimates a huge €136 billion betting turnover for 2018 World Cup Russia™ with no match manipulation detected.

According to FIFA, the 2018 World Cup Russia generated a staggering €136 billion in betting turnover.

Not only was the tournament a huge financial success for betting operators worldwide, but FIFA working in conjunction with integrity partners, in particular Sportradar, found zero signs of match fixing or betting fraud.

Although Sportradar’s Fraud Detection System, which watches as many as 550 operators globally, did see some alerts, they were false alarms caused by markets adjusting opening after the first two rounds.

FIFA report that the average match during the tournament generated an estimated worldwide betting turnover of €2.1 billion, and the Croatia vs France final an incredible €7.2 billion. Croatia had the highest average betting turnover per match.

Not surprisingly, many bookmakers did very well out of the tournament, illustrated by Paddy Power Betfair reporting a 13% revenue rise in Q2.
