YouTube Gaming To Celebrate Mobile Esports During VidCon With $50K Charity Tournament

YouTube Gaming will lean on some of its most popular content creators to raise $50K USD for charity during VidCon. On Thursday, Jimmy “OJ” Chau, Tim “Ash” Evans, Powerbang Gaming, and more will virtually descend on VidCon to play in an Olympic-style tournament with multiple games being played during VidCon.

Started in 2010 and now organized by ViacomCBS, VidCon is an online video tech conference held annually in Southern California that showcases and celebrates content creators on various platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, and others. Usually a live event held at the Anaheim Convention Center, this year’s conference went online only due to the COVID-19 pandemic. YouTube is the title sponsor this year and the exclusive livestream partner for VidCon.

YouTube’s charity tournament will be a two-hour celebratory event with mobile gaming creators going head-to-head in a duos format playing Brawl StarsClash Royale, and PUBG MOBILE. The winners will receive $50K that will go towards a charity of their choice for coronavirus relief. The tournament starts at 2 p.m. EST on VidCon’s YouTube channel Aug. 27.

According to YouTube, this tournament is part of an initiative by the company to provide “high quality and competitive” video content for gaming fans globally while bringing awareness to important causes.
