Wirex Launching In US Following State Money Transmission License

Wirex launching in US following state money transmission license. Wirex received its first U.S. money transmission license on Friday and is now preparing to launch its services in the region.

The license issued to Wirex USA on July 30 by the state of Georgia’s Department of Banking and Finance allows the company to conduct a state-owned crypto-currency exchange business.

The announcement came after Wirex revealed that it would be launching its “next-gen cryptocurrency platform linked to a spending card in the U.S.” Wirex USA Managing Director Harold Montgomery commented “The license in the state of Georgia is the first success in Wirex’s approach to providing fully compliant cryptocurrency management capabilities in the hands of its customers.” The U.K.-based company confirmed “We’re planning to launch our services in the US in the coming months.”

The business claims it now serves 3 million customers across 130 countries, and its card is accepted at more than 54 million locations. Wirex is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority of the UK and has a license to issue European cards.
