Canel Frichet, managing director of French poker site Winamax, is to step down from her role with France’s market leader in online poker cash games at the end of this month.
The company has not planned to fill her position with a like-for-like replacement in the near future, although there is an acknowledgment that it will need an executive figurehead to lead it and speak on its behalf.
In the meantime, strategic and board level decisions will be taken by the historic management team made up of Marc Simoncini, web entrepreneur and founder of France’s leading online dating site Meetic; poker player, singer and actor Patrick Bruel and Alexandre Roos and Christophe Schaming, two of the original founders of the company.
Canel Frichet for her part will take some time off work, having been with Winamax when the company was based in London long before France’s market regulation of 2010.
She led it throughout the market opening, enabling it to eventually overtake worldwide leader PokerStars and its dot fr site in the cash games segment, although the Isle of Man-based operator still leads the French market for tournaments.
