Universal Beijing Resort Partners With Tencent For Feature 2022 Seasonal Event

Tencent Interactive Entertainment Group (IGE) and Universal Parks & Resorts announced that the two companies have signed a long-term partnership for the upcoming Universal Beijing Resort.

Tencent-related esports titles, Honor of KingsPeacekeeper EliteQQ Speedas well as several of its game titles will be featured at the resort’s 2022 seasonal event. In addition, based on the long-term partnership, the two will continue to select more of Tencent’s IPs for seasonal activities.

It’s not clear if the event will feature esports competitions or just characters from esports titles.

The beginning of the partnership might go back to the 2020 Tencent Esports Annual Global Summit in Hainan, as executives from Universal Beijing Resorts attended the summit and gave a speech on stage.

The goal is “to explore new experiences and business models through the concept of ‘game IPs + theme parks’ with the elements of Chinese cultural IP and esports,” Tencent said at the announcement.

“Tencent IGE has been boosting the global esports industry,” Steven Ma, Tencent senior vice president said. “Games and esports are not only a vibrant digital culture industry, but also an important crystallization of modern technology and culture.”

The Universal Beijing Resort is China’s first Universal theme park, and will officially open later this year.
