UKGC Set To Recommend Ban On Credit Card Payments For Online Gambling

Reports suggest the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) will recommend banning the use of credit cards for all online gambling.

At the weekend, both the Sunday Times and The Observer newspapers reported the UKGC is set to publish recommendations calling for a ban on all credit card payments to online gambling firms, as part of efforts to stop operators “exploiting vulnerable customers.”

The UKGC has been investing the issue of credit card gambling for a year now, looking at current regulations, safeguards and monitoring, and in August 2019 opened a 12-week consultation period involving industry stakeholders (read more).

Additionally, a House of Lords Committee looked into the matter, which involved hearing testimonies from gambling addicts who had used credit cards to fund their habits.
