The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) will ban the use of credit cards for all online gambling from 14th April.
At the weekend, both the Sunday Times and The Observer newspapers reported the UKGC is set to publish recommendations calling for a ban on all credit card payments to online gambling firms, as part of efforts to stop operators “exploiting vulnerable customers.” The UKGC has now confirmed credit cards will be banned from 14th April 2020.
The UKGC has been investing the issue of credit card gambling for a year now, looking at current regulations, safeguards and monitoring, and in August 2019 opened a 12-week consultation period involving industry stakeholders.
Additionally, a House of Lords Committee looked into the matter, which involved hearing testimonies from gambling addicts who had used credit cards to fund their habits.
