Two employees at leading U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase recently celebrated their wedding with a pair of non-fungible token (NFT) rings.
According to tweets published on April 3, Rebecca Rose and Peter Kacherginsky used the Ethereum blockchain to solidify their wedding. Rose explained the couple used a smart contract for their marriage that issued digital artwork to their cryptocurrency wallets in the form of NFTs.

Rose continued, saying the token was named Tabaat, the Hebrew word for ring. The token also contains an animation by artist Carl Johan Hasselrot showing “two distinct things becoming one, like in marriage.”
In addition to the commemorative tokens, the exchange of virtual rings was permanently stored on the Ethereum blockchain for “all to see as proof of our commitment to each other.” Rose included a link to Etherscan showing the memorialized moment.

Rose said the image of the digital rings inside of NFTs would serve as a constant reminder of the bond forged between the two Coinbase employees. She called blockchain “forever” and “unstoppable” compared to physical objects, and noted that NFTs did not require “anyone’s permission.”
