Tencent acquires Leyou Technologies for $1.5B. Tencent Holdings has added another group of game developers and publishers through a $1.5B USD acquisition of Leyou Technologies. The shareholders signed the agreement on Dec. 11, which was officialised on Wednesday.
Leyou’s holdings include U.K.-based Splash Damage, which has worked on a number of multiplayer first-person shooter games for Activision Blizzard and others over the years. Other include Canadian studio Digital Extremes, developer of the popular online action game Warframe, Certain Affinity, who have worked on the Call of Duty and Halo franchises, and Athlon Games, who is working with Amazon on a Lord of the Rings MMO.
Leyou’s studios join Tencent’s growing list of video game holdings including League of Legends and Valorant developer Riot Games, Brawl Stars and Clash Royale developer Supercell, and MMO developer Funcom. The company also holds a significant minority stake in Epic Games, Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft, Krafton, and many other video game companies.
