Gambling regulator in Sweden, Spelinspektionen has proposed to limit football betting in Sweden as part of efforts to reduce match-fixing. This restrictions would allow operators to only offer betting markets on the country’s top four football divisions.
As for the Swedish Cup, only matches featuring teams from the four leagues can be betted on. International games would be restricted to under-21 games and up while wagering on training matches and friendlies is forbidden.
Spelinspektionen will be inviting industry stakeholders on May 6th to share their thoughts as concerns have been raised over the restrictions with some suggesting it will force players towards unlicensed, off-shore sites.
