Spanish Regulator Names García As New Director-General

Spanish national gambling regulator Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) has appointed Juan Espinosa García as its new director-general.

García will take on the role having served as deputy director-general of the body since July 2013.

Prior to his time with the DGOJ, García spent five years as deputy director (relations with public administrations) within the Advocacy Division of the Spanish National Competition Commission.

The appointment comes after the DGOJ in November revealed significant growth in the country’s online gaming sector for the three months to September 30.

Revenue from online gaming in the third quarter stood at €103 million ($107.3 million), up 22% on the corresponding period in 2015.

Sports betting was the main source of online income in Q3 after generating €56.8 million in revenue, 15% more than in the previous year, while online casino revenue climbed 57% year-on-year to €28.4 million.
