PUBG Mobile Unveils $3m Charity Tournament

PUBG Mobile and Gamers without Borders have announced the PUBG MOBILE World Invitational (PMWI), a $3m (~£2.17m) online charity tournament featuring western and eastern teams.

The event will be split into two tournaments – PMWI East and PMWI West – with the winner of each receiving $1.5m (~£1.08m).

Some of the teams competing in the event include NAVI, Ghost Gaming, Team Queso, Team GODSENT, NASR Esports, Team QLASH. Lakonostra MVP is the competition’s UK representative. In total, there will be 32 teams participating in PMWI.

The top teams from each division will be able to choose from a range of Humanitarian Aid organisations to receive its prize pool share.

James Yang, Director of PUBG Mobile Global Esports, commented: “Following the success of PUBG MOBILE World League Season Zero and PUBG MOBILE Global Championship in 2020, I am excited to share that we are yet again expanding our global tournament offering with the World Invitational.

“We are dedicated alongside Gamers Without Borders to continuing the fight against COVID so are thrilled to announce the $3m charity donation being made as part of the tournament.”

The event will commence from July 22nd – 25th, with teams competing against each other divided across 20 matches and three maps including Erangel, Sanhok and Miramar.

Smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has been announced as PMWI’s sponsor. Moreover, live streaming platform Nimo TV has been named as a media partner for the event.

Turki Al Fawzan, CEO of the Saudi Esports Federation, added: “It’s great to see a partnership between PUBG Mobile and Gamers Without Borders to unite gamers for a good cause. The impact Gamers Without Borders had in its first edition motivated us to continue the journey this year.

“Now, with Tencent supporting the cause through this partnership, we can further spread the message to leave no one behind while delivering a one of a kind esports competition for our viewers.”
