Sky Betting and Gaming, the online gaming subsidiary of UK pay-television broadcaster BSkyB, has reported a 37% surge in turnover to in the twelve months through to June 30.

The company said that the increase resulted from a strong growth in mobile gaming and the relaunch earlier this year of its Sky Bet mobile phone application, which has already processed more than one million bets.

“We’ve had a really good year and a big driver for that growth is betting on mobile,” Sky Betting and Gaming Managing Director Richard Flint said. “We updated it in the spring to make it faster and include more Sky content.”

Sky Betting and Gaming is planning to bolster its 500-strong workforce with a further 50 recruits over the next couple of months, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Sky Bet, the company’s sportsbetting division, recently became the new title sponsor of the Football League in England under a new five-year agreement from 2013/14 to 2017/18.

BSkyB, which announced its full-year results on Friday, reported a 7% rise in the group’s revenues to £7.24bn while pre-tax profits rose by 6% to £1.26bn.
