Mississippi becomes the third state to welcome sports betting post-PASPA, at two MGM casinos in Biloxi and Tunica.
Mississippi says hello to sports betting on Wednesday, when MGM casinos will start accepting sports bets, eleven days after it was legalised by the state legislature.
The two MGM casinos to launch sports betting will be the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, and the Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica.
To celebrate the auspicious occasion, sporting celebrities including former NFL players Stanley Morgan and Willis McGahee will attend and place simultaneous bets at the two casinos.
The developments mean Mississippi is the third state, following New Jersey and Delaware, to formally legalise sports betting following PASPA being declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
MGM has established a joint venture with GVC Holdings with plans to launch sportsbooks in up to 15 states across America, and has also joined forces with Boyd Gaming, the Nevada-based gaming and hospitality company, to grow its online gaming portfolio.
Though, as with so many sports betting developments in the United States, things are progressing by increments, with mobile betting only currently legal on casino premises – somewhat mitigating its appeal.
Even so, a dozen other casinos in Mississippi are already applying for sports betting licenses, with the aim of being live before September and the all-important start of the NFL season.
