FansUnite, a blockchain protocol for the sports betting and sports data industries, announced on Thursday that it has been named the latest official partner for Leicester City Football Club. FansUnite is the second blockchain partner for the football club and it will support the team during its 2018-2019 season.
To celebrate the partnerships, the Vancouver-based company will launch promotions in King Power Stadium and surrounding areas in conjunction with Leicester City. This will be coordinated in addition to a series of promotions across England.
Commenting on the partnership, Jonathan Gregory, Leicester City’s Commercial Director, said: “We are proud to welcome FansUnite into our family of partners. They share our belief in the power of football to bring supporters together whether that is at King Power Stadium or around the world. FansUnite is an innovative brand looking to bring transparency and collaboration to their industry and we are delighted to be part of this journey.”
Sports partnership to increase FansUnite exposure ahead of launch
The FansUnite Protocol is built on the Ethereum blockchain. It is expected to be launched in late 2018 and will allow operators to offer betters lower fees and more chances to earn profits. The partnership will no doubt increase awareness of the platform leading up to its launch.
So far the company has received C$4.45 million ($3.4 million) in a Series A financing round. FansUnite has been developing the protocol to facilitate its regulatory compliant token launch later this year.
The CEO of FansUnite, Darius Eghdami, added: “Leicester City F.C. is one of the premier brands in all of football, being one of just six clubs to hoist the Premier League Trophy since its inception in 1992.
They are at the forefront of incorporating new technology to help improve player performance and fan engagement. Partnering with a globally recognized brand that shares our commitment to improving conditions for sports fans through the application of new technology was a natural fit.”
Sport sponsorships, which have been a popular way for forex firms to increase their exposure, are increasingly being used by crypto platforms and exchanges. Partnerships with blockchain protocols have also been on the rise, as is evident with the agreement with FansUnite.
On Tuesday, FortuneZ reported that eToro, a social trading brokerage and crypto exchange operator, announced that it had made a significant sponsorship deal. The agreement saw the company sponsor not one, but seven Premier League teams, including Leicester City. In addition, eToro announced that it will pay the teams in bitcoin.
