Google Play To Allow Android Betting Apps In 15 More Countries

Google Play has announced that Android will support betting apps in 15 more countries including the United States beginning March 1.

Android real money gaming apps are currently limited to Brazil, Ireland, France and the United Kingdom.

Android betting apps will also soon be available in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Spain and Sweden.

Google Play will require app developers to carry a valid gaming license for each country they seek to operate in. They must also submit an application meeting necessary legal requirements.

Betting apps must be free to download and will be rated Adult Only to discourage underage users.

The apps will cover online casino games, lotteries, sports betting and daily fantasy sports.

DraftKings said in a statement that they support the decision, adding “As sports betting and iGaming continues to expand across the United States, we are excited that DraftKings Sportsbook and Casino apps will soon be available to download for Android users via Google Play.”

News of Google Play’s revised policy set DFS stocks soaring on Thursday. By evening, DraftKings was trading at a 3.5% improvement, while FanDuel parent company Flutter Entertainment was up 2%.

Caesars Entertainment also appeared to benefit from the announcement, with their stock trading more than 10% higher.
