On Saturday, Shay Ben-Yitzhak, one of the founders of 888 Holdings, a prominent online gambling firm was found dead in a light plane crash in a field near Kibbutz Yakum in central Israel.
Yitzhak and a 11 year old boy were found trapped in the plane and were eventually removed from the wreckage with the young boy airlifted to the hospital to receive medical treatment. The boy, believed to be Yitzhak’s son was thought to be in serious condition however doctors have revised his status, saying he is only lightly hurt.
888 Holdings took to LinkedIn to express their sorrow on the founders death, “It is with deep sorrow that we inform of the death of 888 group co-founder, Shay Ben Yitzhak. Shay and his brother Ron, together with Avi and Aharon Shaked founded 888 in 1997. Shay was a unique person. He was humble, caring and a good friend to those close to him. His spirit has a big part in the 888 DNA as we know it. It is a terrible loss to his family and friends and to the entire 888 family. May he rest in peace, and may his family find comfort during these difficult times”.
Shay had spent his time travelling the world with his family, visiting countries including Spain, Turkey, France and Switzerland to name a few. When he was not travelling, his family and him lived a life of service to their community, where they worked as volunteers to clean various cities in Israel.
