Epic Games Acquires Fall Guys Maker Tonic Games Group

Fortnite and Unreal Engine maker Epic Games has acquired Tonic Games Group, the developers of the popular battle royale party game, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout.

The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed by Epic in its announcement.

Epic said in a release that it has no plans to change the gameplay on any of the platforms it is currently on and that it will “continue to invest in making the game a great experience for players across platforms.”

Tonic Games joins Epic’s other wholly-owned studios including Rocket League developer Psyonix, Chair Entertainment, and People Can Fly.

Fall Guys was a mainstay amongst streamers and content creators in 2020, regularly appearing in TEO’s weekly Twitch Top 10 viewership charts. While the game has slid off the charts in recent months, it’s still regularly played by a variety of streamers alongside popular games like Grand Theft Auto role-playing and Among Us.
