CME Group (NASDAQ: CME), one of the world’s largest derivatives marketplace, has appointed Joanne Shannon as its newest Executive Director and Head of Commercial Development across its European operations.
In her new role as the Executive Director and Head of Commercial Development of CME Europe, its London-based derivatives exchange, she will be tasked with developing and managing the group’s sales strategy, whilst expanding its infrastructure around CME Europe’s trading, clearing, and various reporting capabilities.
In this capacity she will be reporting to Cees Vermaas, Managing Director and CEO of CME Europe. According to Vermaas, in a recent statement on the appointment, “We are very pleased to welcome Joanne to CME Group in this critical role supporting our expansion across Europe.”
“Since its launch in April 2014, CME Europe has made considerable strides in building out its suite of contracts and has established itself as an innovator across multiple asset classes including FX, Energy and Agricultural Commodities. Joanne’s extensive knowledge of the derivatives industry and market structure in Europe will be a tremendous boost to the platform as we continue to extend our offering in the region,” Vermaas added.
Ms. Shannon joins CME Europe from NYSE Euronext, having worked for nearly fifteen years across a number of senior roles for the operator, namely its European and Asian Liffe markets. Additionally, she also worked at the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
Earlier this month, CME Group made headlines after it reported its September 2015 volumes, which came in largely weaker when weighed against its 2014 counterpart.
