Online bookmaker Betway extends partnership with West Ham United football club for further 6 years in record-breaking deal.
Online bookmaker Betway has extended its partnership with West Ham United football club for a further six years in a record breaking deal for the club.
Betway and West Ham have been partners since 2015, with the club’s Vice Chairman, Karren Brady, saying:
“After working together successfully for four years, this is a new, long-term, record-breaking commercial deal for the club, which shows the faith that Betway has in West Ham United and our iconic global identity which has seen us recognised as one of the world’s biggest football brands,
“We look forward to continuing to work with Betway as we embark on the next chapter for our great club, and we will use this partnership as a platform for success, both on and off the pitch.”
The deal comes at a time of growing pressure for a complete ban on gambling advertising and sponsorship in UK sports, and wider more general public, media and political hostility towards the industry.
This year’s Premier League season will see the introduction of a whistle-to-whistle ban on pre-watershed betting advertising on TV – a self-imposed move by the Industry Group for Responsible Gaming (IGRG).
The UK’s largest betting operator, GVC Holdings, has also been vocally calling for a complete ban on sports betting advertising, in what many see as a cynical ploy to kill competition for its already well-entrenched brands like Ladbrokes and Coral (read more).
