The independent Kansspelautoriteit land-based and online gambling regulator in The Netherlands has announced that has been hired to replace Peter Plug as its Director from September 23.
An economist and currently a partner at economic strategy and consulting firm Strategies in Regulated Markets (SiRM), 41-year-old Appelman previously worked for the Dutch Healthcare Authority, the Central Planning Bureau, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Dutch Competition Authority.
The Kansspelautoriteit was established in its present form last year and lists as its mission ‘regulating games of chance by granting gaming licenses, supervising the licensees, combating illegal gambling and protecting consumers against gambling addiction’.
