US telecommunications company AT&T has announced that its U-Verse triple-play brand has ceased carriage of horseracing channel TVG.
According to the Multichannel.com website, TVG was one of the first national networks in the US to offer dedicated horse racing coverage, providing live feeds from various tracks around the country and allowing viewers to bet on races via phone or online.
TVG had been available as part of U-Verse’s U450 Package.
Betting exchange, casino and sportsbook operator Betfair purchased TVG in 2009 for approximately $50.7 million (€37.6 million).
“Despite our good faith efforts to negotiate and reach an agreement to renew, and to fully resolve any outstanding compliance issues, we were not able to reach mutually beneficial terms and no longer have the rights to carry the content,” AT&T’s executive director of media relations, Mark Siegel.
U-Verse will continue to carry rival channel HRTV, a joint venture between racetrack operator the Stronach Group and Churchill Downs Incorporated.
