French igaming regulator ARJEL has announced a restructure of its internal organisation to take into account the evolution of the French online gaming and betting market and “the experience it has acquired since (it started) regulating the market in 2010”.
ARJEL has come under some scrutiny since the change of government in France in 2012 and has streamlined parts of its structure in an effort to reduce costs. It has reduced by half the number of members of its ‘Collège’, the body which decides on licences, sanctions and other ARJEL business.
The general directorate will be headed up by Frédéric Epaulard, his deputy directors will be responsible for the regulatory framework, international relations and IT and control systems. The general directorate will also look after the general secretariat, economic and feasibility studies, communications, institutional and media relations.
The regulatory tasks will be spread out between the various sub-directorates and committees, who will look after legal issues, licences, sports and international relations. The control and IT directorates will monitor licensed operators’ activities, consultancy and strategic projects, illegal operators and IT and telecoms.
