On-site events for PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG) have been canceled for the year, and will be replaced by a multi-region online competition series. The developer of the battle royale game, made the decision in light of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The PUBG Continental Series (PCS) will consist of three events in May, June, and August with a total prize pool fund of $2.4M USD across four regions: Asia, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America. Proceeds from the first event will go to charity, where each region winner can choose a charity for PUBG Corp. to donate $100K to. The May and August events will see the return of the “Pick’Em Challenge” and in-game items, designed to provide additional revenue to competitors.
PUBG esports initially planned to have three roadshow tournaments in 2020, in place of last year’s multi-regional league model. The 21 teams that qualified for the first of these canceled events (in Berlin) will receive $20K in compensation.
