Macau Government To Listen To Legislators’ Opinions About Gaming Law Amendments

The Macau SAR Government will listen to legislators’ opinions on proposed amendments to its gaming law next Monday, 17 May.

According to the agenda on the Macau Legislative Assembly website, the Monitoring Committee for Land and Public Concession Affairs will meet with the government’s representatives next week

The president of the Committee, Lei Cheng I, said he had invited the government to present proposed amendments to Macau’s gaming law at the meeting in line with the original work plan, hoping the government will listen to the views of members before formulating its policies.

The government has not yet revealed any details about the re-tendering process for Macau gaming licenses, despite the fact that all six current gaming concessions are due to expire in June 2022. It has previously stated, however, that a public consultation period on proposed amendments to the gaming law will begin sometime in the second half of 2021.

Macau legislator Ho Ion Seng recently called on the government to clarify the definition of “non-gaming elements” under the SAR’s new gaming law in order to strengthen its supervision of gaming concessionaires.
