ESMA Secures Annemie Rombouts as New Chair of CRSC

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) announced that it has secured Annemie Rombouts as its new Chair of the Corporate Reporting Standing Committee (CRSC), effective immediately.

Glancing Back at Rombouts Employment

Prior to the announcement from ESMA, Rombouts joined forces with the Belgian Banking and Finance Commission, the supervisory authority for banking and financial markets and predecessor of the FSMA in 1999. Located in Bruxelles, she had risen through their ranks over the years, starting as Attaché, Prudential supervision of investment firms. She progressed to Deputy Advisor (DA) in Legal and then moved to DA in Enforcement. In 2005 she attained the role of Deputy Secretary-General which she fulfilled for around six years. From there, she was elevated to Director of Legal for another two years until she culminated in her most recent position as Vice-Chair of the Belgian ‘Financial Services and Markets Authority’ (FSMA) and a member of the FSMA Management Board.

Alongside her time at FSMA, she was the Deputy Chief Of Staff in the Cabinet of the Minister of Finance, Belgium. For fifteen months, she served her country effectively between March 2013 and May 2014.

Before her stretch as ESMA, the Belgian Federal Government recruited her as Advisor to the Minister of Finance. At this time, she developed a strong interest in policy-making, regulation and supervision in the three-year stint.

Earlier, Rombouts tried her hand in education and took on the post of University Lecturer at Solvay Brussels School. For close on three years, she provided tuition for a Masters in Tax Management.

Additionally, she began as an Attorney At Law for Liedekerke Wolters Waelbroeck Kirkpatrick in the autumn of 1991. In 1995, Annemie followed Thierry Afschrift to become a Partner at Association Afschrift.
