Chinese Government To Develop Horseracing Industry

Chinese government to develop horseracing industry. The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs with the General Administration of Sports (GAD) has unveiled a five-year plan to develop equestrian sports in the country.

Organised horseracing was outlawed in mainland China in 1945 and since 1949, no legal gambling on the sport has been permitted. Since then, there have been only exhibition race fixtures, primarily organised by the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the China Horse Club.

The Ministry of Agriculture and GAD presented a study titled the National Equine Industry Development Plan (2020-2025), destined to encourage and improve equestrian sports and industries.

According to Racing Post, the Chinese government aims to improve racing by improving horse health and medication standards to an international level, establishing national competitions and publishing an annual report on the matter.
