Germany to permit online casino games. Under a strict regulatory structure, the Glücksspielneuregulierungstaatsvertrag (GlüneuRStV), German legislators have agreed to allow online casino games in Germany. The new regulatory regime takes effect on 1 July 2021.
The system contains stringent provisions including rules for the safety of players and steps for the prevention of addiction. As per the new framework, operators can offer online slots, poker and sports betting. However, they will have to limit in-play betting markets to next goalscorer and final results and establish a €1 per spin stake limit.
Online table games, such as blackjack and roulette, will not be permitted in the transition period. There will also be a €1,000 monthly for each player. Any breach of the regulations will result in the withdrawal of the license and possible blacklisting.
